PlayStation Network outage hits Australia, blocks sign-ins
PlayStation Network outage blocked sign-ins, online play and store purchases in Australia as Sony said all services were affected.
Sony’s PlayStation Network status page said all services were having problems early on Saturday AEST, blocking Australian players from signing in, playing online and buying titles through the PlayStation Store.
The page said Sony was “working to resolve the issue as soon as possible”. It gave no cause, restoration time or estimate of affected accounts.
BBC News reported tens of thousands of outage reports worldwide after players in several markets were locked out for hours. Down Detector counts rely on user submissions rather than a full census of PlayStation users, and digitalblog has not independently verified the figure.
Engadget reported the disruption also affected account management and game launching for some players. Sony’s status page was still listing problems shortly before 6am AEST on Saturday, as Australian users were starting the weekend gaming window.
The outage lands as Sony prepares to push PlayStation deeper into digital distribution. Earlier this month, Sony Interactive Entertainment said it would stop physical disc production for all new PlayStation games from January 2028, increasing reliance on its store and network for purchases, downloads and launches.
